Hey Y'all

I’m Kelsey, the founder of Kelsey the Plant Lady, and I’m so glad you’re here!

My love for plants began as a little girl, helping my grandmother in her garden. A Master Gardener, she has always been an inspiration, with her incredible gardens filled with flowers, succulents, and the gourds she crafts into artwork. Over the years, she’s won many awards for her designs, and some of my earliest memories are of harvesting tomatoes in her garden. I remember the scent of tomato vines lingering on my hands long after I’d plucked ripe tomatoes from their bunches. The first time I discovered a tomato hornworm hiding among the vines was unforgettable—it startled me then, and still does today when I find their camouflaged bodies in my own garden!

Growing up, my mother filled our home with houseplants and surrounded our yard with ornamental plants, nurturing greenery both indoors and out. Her love for plants has deeply influenced my own passion, shaping the path I’ve taken today.

In 2009, my dad’s juice fast introduced me to The Juicing Bible, and that’s when I realized that plants are medicine. Herbs, fruits, vegetables, cannabis, flowers, trees, even houseplants—all plants have medicinal or spiritual value. That same year, my dad and I grew our first home garden, and I was hooked. It was small—tomatoes, beans, squash, and herbs—but it sparked a lifelong passion for growing my own food and herbs.

In 2010, I left my hometown and embarked on an adventure to Mexico, where I learned how to build Super-Adobe structures. We worked with the Mexican government to build a housing development for indigenous Tarahumara women, providing safe homes for them before and after childbirth.

When that project ended, I moved to Northern California, where fate introduced me to cannabis cultivation. With no prior intention, I found myself on a large cannabis farm, and my love for plants naturally drew me into this new world. Since 2010, I’ve been cultivating cannabis, and it has become a significant part of my professional journey.

From 2021 to 2023, I managed a 10,000 sq. ft. licensed cannabis farm, overseeing every aspect of production—from cloning to packaging. Managing 10 greenhouses and leading a team of employees was an incredible challenge that pushed me to new heights in my career. Those three years taught me more than I could have imagined and solidified my expertise in cannabis production.

Now in 2024, I’m thrilled to share my journey with you through this website. I’ve founded my own company, offering natural and organic horticultural services, irrigation installation and repair, farm and garden consultation and management, as well as licensed cannabis consultation and management. I also operate my own nursery, propagating and selling a wide variety of plants—ornamentals, vegetable and herb starts, succulents, and cacti. Alongside my plant work, I raise chickens, sell pasture-raised organic eggs, and raise baby chicks to sell as teenage egg-layers each spring. Occasionally, I also rescue animals in need.

Looking ahead, I have exciting plans to start a local Farm Stand to sell my produce, and I aspire to grow food to help feed those in need, especially the homeless in my community.

I’m here to share my plant journey with you, including the successes and the challenges, from farming and organic food cultivation to raising animals, growing cannabis, ornamental plants, and herbal medicine. You’ll also find plenty of DIY projects and video tutorials to inspire your own plant and gardening adventures.
